Windows system requirements
Activation of iPhone and connection to the O2 network is different from any other device on the mobile market. You do it through iTunes on your computer. Getting a few things ready now means you'll be ready for iPhone when it arrives. To get ready for iPhone, you'll need to:
If you do not meet these requirements, your iPhone will not work and you won't be able to return it. You need to be over 18, pass a credit check and have a bank account for the monthly Direct Debit payments. If you already have an iTunes account, perfect. If you have to create one, you'll need a debit or credit card. And an email address you access regularly because billing is online only. You sign up for an 18 month minimum term Pay Monthly tariff and airtime agreement with O2 on one of their exclusive iPhone tariffs, which start at just £35 per month, as part of the activation process so just make sure you have this information to hand when you're ready to activate the iPhone. Please note that the iPhone cannot be used in all parts of the UK (including in the Isle of Man) nor other countries where the O2 service is unavailable. Before you can use your iPhone and its internet and music services, you will need to meet the requirements listed below and accept the following terms and conditions:
Terms and Conditions of Sale apply to the purchase of your iPhone. These replace any other terms and conditions (either on the back of your invoice or otherwise), from us. Existing CustomersIf you're an existing O2 customer billed directly by O2 or Pay & Go,you'll be asked as part of the activation process if you want to keep your mobile number and you will need to provide your existing mobile number and enter a PIN (which O2 will send to you during activation). Transferring your number can take up to 5 working days, but don't worry, O2 will provide you with a temporary number so you can start enjoying your iPhone straight away following activation. If you are an O2 customer who is billed by The Carphone Warehouse, you can either enter into a second pay monthly iPhone airtime contract while keeping your existing airtime contract, in which case your existing number will remain with your existing phone and you will get a new number for your iPhone, or we will allow you to cancel your existing contract and transfer your existing number to your iPhone provided you:
If you joined or upgraded through Carphone Warehouse after 18 September 2025 you must in addition pay an amount of £219 as compensation for our loss due to terminating early. If you do not complete the activation of your iPhone or you cancel your new iPhone airtime contract, your existing contract will not be cancelled your number will be transferred back and you will remain liable for all line rental, call and other charges under your existing O2 airtime contract. If you paid the £219 charge, this will be refunded. Please note:
New CustomersIf you are a non O2 customer, you'll need to contact your current network provider to end your existing contract (if permitted) and obtain a PAC code enabling you to transfer your number to O2. The PAC code will be used to initiate your number transfer as part of the iPhone activation process. Please note, number transfers from other networks can take up to 5 working days but you'll be given a temporary number so you can start enjoying your iPhone straight away following activation Business and Corporate CustomersiPhone is currently only available with 18 month Pay Monthly consumer agreements on one of O2's exclusive iPhone tariffs and is not yet available with business contracts on business tariffs. You can still buy an iPhone but you'll need to take out a new 18 month Pay Monthly consumer agreement on an O2 tariff for iPhone. You can transfer your mobile number, provided the decision maker on the account permits this. As a business or corporate customer, there may be a few extra bits O2 need to check with you before the transfer can take place. If this is the case, follow the onscreen instructions during the activation process. When you sign up to an iPhone tariff, you can easily transfer your existing number when you activate your new SIM, provided you are permitted to do so by your existing network. You'll need to ensure that you have already transferred your contacts to your address book and listened to any voicemails before activating your iPhone account as they will be deleted from your old SIM when your new number is transferred. iPhone is available to order online at The Carphone Warehouse, the Apple online store and from O2 online. iPhone is also available from:
Activation must be carried out within 7 working days from when you bought your iPhone, otherwise you will not be able to return it if you fail the O2 credit check. Once you are ready to activate (see Getting Ready), you should connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC using the USB cable provided. iTunes will then activate your device and start connection to the O2 network. To complete the activation process, you'll need to provide:
Your iPhone is restricted to use on the O2 Network. If you do not enter into an airtime agreement with O2 on one of O2's exclusive iPhone tariffs you will not be able to use your iPhone (including the iPod function). If you enter into but do not remain in an airtime agreement with O2 on one of O2's iPhone tariffs you will not be able to use the phone, internet and other related services on your iPhone (but will be able to use the iPod function.) Attempting to use services on any other network, for example by replacing the SIM card, may mean your iPhone becomes permanently unusable.
